Since the beginning of the year, 280 kilograms of narcotics have been confiscated in Northern Cyprus
In the first 11 months of 2023, a record quantity of narcotics, approximately 280 kilograms, has been seized in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The head of the Anti-Narcotics Commission presented commemorative plaques to police officers working in the Anti-Narcotics and Smuggling Department.
As announced at the ceremony by the head of the police, Kasım Kuni, between January and November, the department conducted 326 operations, confiscated around 280 kilograms of narcotics, and initiated criminal cases against 389 suspects. The Chief of Police emphasized that the amount of narcotics seized in the first 11 months of this year is at a record level compared to previous years.
Kasım Kuni also stated that narcotics remain one of the most significant contemporary social problems that all states are grappling with. The illegal circulation of drugs has surpassed borders and taken on international dimensions.
"In conditions of limited human and technical resources, the Anti-Narcotics and Smuggling Department, with the assistance of search dogs, conducted necessary search operations in seaports, airports, and land border crossings," said the Chief of Police.
