Since the start of 2024, 7,312 drivers have been caught conversing on their phones while behind the wheel in Northern Cyprus. Police have reminded that using mobile devices while driving is prohibited, including the use of speakers, headphones, or Bluetooth.
According to a statement from the Main Police Department, from January 1st to May 26th, 7,312 drivers were registered using mobile phones while driving.
Furthermore, from April 15th to May 19th, preventive measures were taken across the country to prevent traffic accidents and violations such as ignoring traffic signals, speeding, and using mobile phones while driving.
Additional raids were conducted from May 20th to 26th to identify drivers talking on the phone while driving. During this period, 1,051 drivers of vehicles were registered using mobile phones.
"We would like to remind our drivers that the ban on using mobile phones while driving includes not only holding the phone to the ear but also using speakers, headphones, or Bluetooth, as well as actions such as texting or browsing on the phone," the police message said.
