Land Registry Employees in Lefkoşa Strike Again

On Monday, December 16, employees at the Lefkoşa district land registry office went on strike once again. The protest was organized in response to persistent, unresolved issues at the branch and will continue throughout the day.

The strike was initiated by three unions representing Turkish Cypriot public sector employees – KTAMS, KAMUSEN, and KAMU-İŞ. In a joint statement, KTAMS Chairperson Güven Bengihan noted that despite taking decisive action in November, no progress has been made in resolving the ongoing problems at the Lefkoşa land registry office over the past month.

Bengihan emphasized that “we will continue our struggle until a solution is found.” As part of today’s strike, union representatives are expected to issue a joint statement to the press.

It is worth recalling that a similar strike was held at the Lefkoşa land registry on November 20. During that protest, employees urged authorities to resolve the branch’s issues as quickly as possible, warning that strikes would continue if their demands were ignored.

Following a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Housing from the Ministry of Interior, the Lefkoşa district land registry suspended its strike until December 15 – the deadline by which the government had promised to address the unions' concerns.
