Court Detains Two Russians Accused of "Cryptocurrency" Robbery
In Kyrenia, the court has decided to extend the detention of two Russians accused of assaulting and robbing an individual during a cryptocurrency exchange.
The suspects, Denis Ermakov and Andrey Naumenko, will remain in custody for at least another five days. According to the investigation, the crime took place on May 25 around 3:00 PM. Two Kyrenia residents invited a 37-year-old Iskele resident to their home on Bedrettin Demirel Street in Kyrenia to conduct a cryptocurrency transaction for cash. While in the house, the perpetrators brutally assaulted their victim, binding his hands, feet, and mouth with tape, before stealing $16,000 USD and one thousand Turkish lira in cash.
Meanwhile, the victim's friends were outside the house. Sensing something was amiss, they recorded the suspects exiting the apartment and promptly handed the evidence to the police.
During the investigation and analysis of CCTV footage, it was discovered that the suspects changed clothes and headed to Ercan Airport by taxi. Police officers at the airport arrested Denis Ermakov in the waiting area and Andrey Naumenko during boarding of a flight to Antalya.
Notably, one piece of evidence was a pack of brown cigarettes found in the possession of one of the detainees. The same brand of cigarette was found at the crime scene.
Following their arrest, the suspects were brought to court, which issued a three-day detention order. During this time, nine witness testimonies were collected, and four CCTV recordings were reviewed. Today, the accused appeared before the court again.
The police noted that the investigation is ongoing. Since the stolen money has not yet been recovered, it is necessary to review the camera footage and obtain statements.
The judge decided to detain the suspects in police custody for another five days for further investigation.
