Court Grants Bail to President of KTIMB
In Northern Cyprus, the court has granted bail to Kafer Gürkafe, President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Contractors' Association (KTIMB). Gürkafe was arrested as part of an investigation by the Department of Combating Financial Crimes.
The day before, Gürkafe appeared before the Nicosia District Court. During the hearing, a police sergeant requested that the suspect be released on bail, stating that “there is no possibility of influencing the investigation.” The prosecutor did not oppose this request.
The judge ordered that the suspect be prohibited from traveling abroad, confiscating their TRNC identity card and passport, and imposed a bail amount of 400,000 Turkish lira. Additionally, two TRNC citizens are required to provide surety bonds of 1 million Turkish lira each to ensure that the suspect complies with the bail conditions. The suspect must report to the police once a week.
It is important to note that Gürkafe was arrested along with accomplices at the end of July. They are suspected of fraud, extortion, and document forgery.
