TRNC and Turkey Develop New Measures to Combat Illegal Migration
TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel met with Turkey’s Minister of the Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, in Ankara to discuss strategies for tackling illegal migration, strengthening security cooperation, and improving migration centers.
During an official ceremony at Turkey’s Ministry of the Interior, Üstel was welcomed with an honor guard. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Fikri Ataoğlu.
The discussions focused on joint cooperation projects between the TRNC and Turkey, with a particular emphasis on addressing illegal migration. One of the key topics was enhancing the efficiency of the TRNC’s migration center.
Key Decisions:
- Accelerate the establishment of the TRNC migration center and ensure it operates at full capacity.
- Deploy immigration control vehicles in every district to improve monitoring and enforcement.
- Upgrade the TRNC’s police and fire department service vehicles.
The TRNC delegation arrived in Ankara immediately after the Geneva summit on the Cyprus issue. Before this meeting, Üstel held a series of discussions with Turkish officials. Later today, the TRNC and Turkey are set to sign the 2025 Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement.
