TRNC Ranks Third in Tea Imports from Turkey

In the first five months of 2024, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) imported tea from Turkey worth $209,830, ranking third after Belgium and the USA.

According to Saffet Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Board of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association, Turkey sold 1,608 tons of tea to 21 countries in the first five months of the year, amounting to $6,167,725 in total.

The largest export of Turkish tea was to Belgium, valued at $4,708,987, followed by the USA at $484,179, and TRNC in third place at $209,830.

Kalyoncu added that, in total, 2,468 tons of tea were exported to 110 countries, autonomous regions, and free zones over the five-month period. The total export revenue for tea reached $12,011,763.

During this period, the most significant tea exports went to Belgium, the United Kingdom, and the USA.

Saffet Kalyoncu stated that they expect tea production and exports to grow exponentially due to upcoming research efforts. He emphasized the need to prepare and implement precautionary measures against global warming, the greatest threat to agricultural products, and called for immediate research into drought-resistant tea varieties.
