Yasin Ekrem Serim has been appointed as the new Turkish ambassador to Nicosia, replacing Metin Feyzioğlu.

According to local media, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced the names of new ambassadors over the weekend.

Deputy Foreign Minister Yasin Ekrem Serim will be appointed as the ambassador to Nicosia, while the current ambassador, Metin Feyzioğlu, will become the ambassador to Prague, a position previously held by former minister Egemen Bağış.

Yasin Ekrem Serim was born on March 27, 1986, in the Kocaeli district of İzmir. He is married, has three children, and speaks English. He holds a degree in Public Administration and Political Science from Girne American University and a master's degree in International Business Management from the University of Westminster. He also has certificates from Harvard University’s programs in Negotiation and Communication Methods and Leadership in Southeast Europe.

Several media sources reported that the personnel changes are linked to an incident during a visit to the TRNC commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation. Turkey's ambassador in Nicosia, Metin Feyziolu, did not meet CHP party chairman Özgür Özel at the airport.

“Wherever we travel in the world, our ambassadors always greet us. If they cannot come themselves, they always send an officer. But at the airport, we saw neither the ambassador nor anyone from the embassy. No one even inquired about our well-being,” Özel was quoted as saying by Turkish Insider.
