Muslims have begun the holy month of Ramadan: Address by the President of the TRNC
For Muslims around the world, March 11 marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. On the occasion of the fasting, the President of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, addressed the faithful residents of Northern Cyprus.
The ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Ramadan, began on Sunday evening with the new moon. Throughout the month, devout Muslims refrain from drinking water, eating, and indulging in other pleasures during daylight hours.
The fast begins at dawn and ends at sunset. The first prayer was performed the evening before, and tonight, Muslims woke up for the first pre-dawn meal (suhoor), while the morning meal is consumed before sunrise. In the evening, after sunset, the first iftar - dinner - will be held.
The first suhoor in the TRNC took place today at 04:39, and the first iftar will be at 17:56. This year, Ramadan will end on April 9.
"I pray to the Almighty that Ramadan, the month of mercy, abundance, and peace, brings peace, health, and blessings to our people, our brothers in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and the entire Islamic world," said the head of Northern Cyprus in his address on the occasion of Ramadan.
The President for Religious Affairs of the TRNC, Ahmet Ünsal, also addressed the occasion of the beginning of the month of Ramadan.
It is worth reminding that before the start of Ramadan, Turkey sent four thousand food parcels to Northern Cyprus, which were distributedto those in need.
