In 2023, there were 544 fires in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), resulting in damages amounting to 90 million liras

According to the fire department, there were 148 fires in Nicosia, 115 in Kyrenia, 101 in Famagusta, 37 in Güzelyurt, 31 in Geçitkale, 29 in Çaglayan, and 27 each in Iskele and Gemikonagi. Additionally, there were 15 in Esentepe and 8 in Vadili.

In 2023, there were 161 ground fires, 134 fires in buildings, and 129 cars were burned – 81 caught fire while in motion, and another 48 on parking lots.

Furthermore, last year witnessed 9 landfill fires, with arson being the cause in seven instances.

In 2023, three forest fires occurred, resulting in the burning of 612 hectares of forest land. In two cases, the fires were caused by sparks from power lines, and one was due to excessive power consumption in the medium-voltage network.

In total, legal actions have been taken against 58 individuals found guilty of arson and intentional damage.

In 2023, the fire services responded to 1241 calls and conducted 589 events to educate on fire safety in hotels, restaurants, schools, shops, and gas stations.
