Another Real Estate Agent from TRNC Arrested at Larnaca Airport
Another real estate agent from the TRNC has been arrested at Larnaca Airport. The 49-year-old woman is suspected of advertising and “facilitating the sale of property in the north of the island on Greek-Cypriot lands.”
According to Greek media reports, the suspect, a citizen of an EU country, was detained last Sunday around noon upon her arrival at Larnaca Airport. Earlier, the police had issued a warrant for her arrest.
It is noted that the detained woman became the second real estate agent arrested on these charges. Previously, a warrant was issued for the arrest of a German citizen residing in the TRNC. The man was supposed to appear before the police of the Republic of Cyprus to give testimony but ignored the summons.
Initially, it was expected that the arrested German would testify at the end of June.
However, according to Turkish media reports, the suspect filed a request through his lawyer not to testify to the Greek-Cypriot police, citing illness. However, the police rejected his request, insisting on his appearance.
Recall that earlier reports indicated that Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar had drawn attention to the situation involving the detention of foreigners involved in real estate sales in the TRNC. Tatar had met with the personal representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguín Cuellar, and the head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Colin Stewart.
The head of Northern Cyprus described this situation, which “has no place in the legal field,” as “unacceptable.”
