Car Burns in Iskele-Famagusta Road Accident: Driver Arrested
Last night, a serious accident occurred on the main road between Iskele and Famagusta in Northern Cyprus. A car veered off the road and caught fire. The driver refused a medical examination for alcohol and was subsequently arrested.
According to the police, the accident happened around 01:00. As the car approached the Lion Garden roundabout, the 27-year-old driver lost control, causing the vehicle to crash into an embankment on the left side of the road and fall into a 4-meter-deep ditch, where it caught fire. The car was completely destroyed and is beyond repair.
The driver and a 25-year-old female passenger were injured in the accident. They were taken to Famagusta State Hospital. The woman is receiving treatment for a fractured right thigh and left collarbone. The driver, who refused to provide sufficient breath and blood samples for alcohol testing, was arrested.
The police are investigating the cause of the accident.
