Fazıl Küçük Games Held at the Ancient Harbor of Girne
Last weekend, the 22nd Fazıl Küçük Sports Games took place at the ancient harbor of Girne. As part of this annual grand festival, hundreds of athletes competed in various sports over the course of two days.
The festival is organized annually by the Department of Sports. This year’s games featured competitions in 3x3 basketball, handball, table tennis, track and field, weightlifting, and bodybuilding.
At the track and field championship, in the men's 10-kilometer race, Ömer Faruk Kıdzhim claimed first place. Anton Gromilin came in second, while Mehmet Belyuk finished in third.
In the women's category, Özgül Aydın took first place, Esra Kaya came second, and Sıla Özgürgün Çankaya secured third place.
In the U14 women's 3x3 basketball tournament, the "Levent" team lifted the cup, defeating their opponents from "Alsancak" in the final. In the men’s tournament, the "Near East" team emerged victorious.
The table tennis tournament was held at the historic railway tracks of the ancient harbor. In the men’s under-19 category, Ali İleri won the championship, while Özyüm Özel secured first place in the women’s final.
Handball matches, played in the historic setting of Kyrenia Castle, saw the "Onko" team win the women’s title, while "Levent" triumphed in the men’s category.
Nev Fitness, in collaboration with the Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation, presented the festival’s closing show, with athletes delivering performances that drew enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
At the awards ceremony held at the conclusion of the games, athletes were presented with their medals by Mustafa Sütçü, the Director of the Department of Sports.
