In the ancient port of Kyrenia, umbrellas will be installed for tourists and traders
In Kyrenia, traders from the ancient harbor have complained about the lack of infrastructure that could protect people from rain and hail. Tourists in local cafes are forced to get wet in the rain.
According to local entrepreneurs, the absence of umbrellas in the port affects both traders and ordinary visitors to the port.
The owner of one of the port restaurants shared images of visitors getting wet in the rain while eating on social media.
"We pray every day that there is no rain," wrote the restaurant owner.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment of the TRNC responded to the publication on social media.
The ministry announced that umbrellas would be placed in the port next week.
According to the decision of the board, umbrellas sized 4x4 meters will be placed 1.5 meters after the buildings, and umbrellas sized 2.40x2.40 will be installed depending on the location. The umbrellas will be manufactured according to the requirements of local traders.
The ministry also announced that the locations for the installation of umbrellas will be determined and fixed during the current week in accordance with the decision of the Higher Council for Monuments.
It is also noted that the necessary funds for the repair, renovation, and marine cleaning of the pier have been allocated in the budget for 2024: the corresponding tender will be conducted in the near future.
It is worth reminding that the ancient harbor of Kyrenia opened after a year-long reconstruction in December of last year. The work to restore the port began on December 1, 2022. Initially, the work was planned to be completed in May, then the opening date of the renovated harbor was postponed to September, and then to the beginning of October.
