Upgrading the Road Lighting System in Gönyeli-Alayköy
The TRNC Highways Department, the Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality, and the Kıb-Tek Electricity Authority have joined forces to improve street lighting on major roads.
A meeting was held yesterday at the Gönyeli-Alayköy Municipality, led by Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı. The discussions included Highways Department Director Kazım Kafaoglu, Gönyeli-Alayköy Mayor Hüseyin Amcaoğlu, Kıb-Tek Board Chairman Hüseyin Pasha, and Kıb-Tek General Director Dalman Aydın.
Under the agreement, street lighting along the Gönyeli-Güzelyurt highway and within the Gönyeli-Alayköy municipality will undergo regular maintenance and upgrades. The Highways Department will provide financial support, while Kıb-Tek will supply technical experts and the necessary materials.
Additionally, a speed enforcement camera will be installed at a location determined by the Police Department and the Highways Department.
Minister Erhan Arıklı emphasized that inadequate road lighting has become a critical issue, particularly after several fatal accidents. Moving forward, authorities plan to extend similar initiatives across the country to improve road safety.
"Our goal is not only to maintain and repair existing street lighting systems but also to identify and address areas across the country that need better illumination," said Minister Arıklı.
