New Connecting Road Construction Underway in Girne
Construction has begun on the new Cyclops connecting road in Girne, which will link the evacuation route to the main Girne-Nicosia road.
Girne’s mayor, Murat Şenkul, announced the launch of the project on social media. According to him, the challenges facing the city are well-known, and solutions are being implemented within the municipality’s financial limits.
“Good morning, Girne! We’ve successfully kicked off construction of the new Cyclops road, which will connect the evacuation route to the Girne-Nicosia main road. We are aware of the issues in our city and are addressing them within the scope of our budget,” Şenkul wrote.
He further mentioned that, due to a fortunate combination of circumstances, the road is being built at just 40% of the market price—thanks largely to contributions from local business owners and the municipality’s effective management approach.
“We continue to focus on making the most of our resources. The market value of the land we purchased yesterday was double what we actually paid for it,” the mayor added.
