Two Arrested for Throwing Stones at Military Base in Güzelyurt
In Güzelyurt, police have arrested two individuals who threw stones at a military base. There have been increasing complaints from military units about similar incidents recently.
According to the police press service, the suspects have already appeared in court. Shariful Islam and Akbar Ham are charged with disturbing the peace and indecent behavior.
The incident occurred on August 11 at around 1:30 AM, when the two suspects threw stones at the barracks of the 49th Infantry Regiment in Çiftlik. The attackers were swiftly apprehended.
At the court hearing, the police reported a rise in complaints from military units regarding such incidents. The detained individuals are being investigated for their potential involvement in other similar attacks. The police are currently reviewing surveillance footage and verifying the suspects' residency status in the TRNC. The judge has ordered the suspects to remain in custody for three days while further investigations are conducted.
A police officer explained that further statements need to be taken, footage needs to be reviewed, and additional details need to be clarified. The officer requested that the suspects be held for three days to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
