In Kyrenia, a car veered onto the sidewalk and hit three pedestrians: at least one person died

Another fatal road accident occurred in Northern Cyprus. In Kyrenia, the driver lost control of the car and veered onto the sidewalk, hitting three pedestrians. A 22-year-old student died in the accident.

According to the police press service, the accident occurred yesterday evening around 5:00 p.m. on Bedrettin Demirel Street.

20-year-old Gökmen Güniken was speeding and lost control of the car.

The car that veered off the road literally struck three students — 22-year-old Cihan Yüksel, 21-year-old Büşra Yavuz, and 21-year-old Begüm Doşkaya, who were walking on the sidewalk at the time.

As a result of the accident, the eldest of the young men, 22-year-old Cihan Yüksel, died at the scene.

Two more injured were taken to the hospital, to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu in Nicosia. Their treatment is still ongoing. According to official data, Büşra Yavuz suffered serious injuries, while Begüm Doşkaya escaped with minor injuries.

However, judging by the video footage from the scene of the accident, the injuries sustained were significantly more serious. According to unconfirmed information, the number of fatalities in the accident may be higher. The published footage shows that at least two of the injured showed no signs of life.

The driver and passenger of the car were also injured in the accident. They sustained minor injuries and continue to receive treatment at Dr. Akçiçek's hospital in Kyrenia.

Mayor of Kyrenia, Murat Şenkul, has already reacted to the fatal accident. The city's mayor called the incident murder.
