New Turkish Ambassador Appointed in Nicosia
Ali Murat Başçeri has been appointed as the new Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Nicosia, replacing Yasin Ekrem Serim, who held the position for about six months.
The appointment decree, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was published in the Official Gazette. According to the document, Ambassador Yasin Ekrem Serim has been reassigned to a central office, and Ali Murat Başçeri, Director-General of Consular Services and Overseas Citizens, has taken over his role in Nicosia.
Ali Murat Başçeri is no stranger to Cyprus; he previously served as Turkey’s Ambassador in Nicosia from November 1, 2018, to November 23, 2022. For context, his predecessor, Yasin Ekrem Serim, officially assumed the role of Ambassador in Nicosia on August 12 of last year, succeeding Metin Feyzioğlu, who was appointed Ambassador to Prague.
