Ercan Airport to Handle Over 1,000 Flights During the Holiday Period
Ercan Airport is set to manage a total of 1,057 flights over the 10-day Ramadan Bayram holiday, which runs from March 28 to April 6. Authorities have finalized preparations and implemented the necessary safety measures.
The holiday will span three days in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)—from Friday, March 28, to Tuesday, April 1. During this period, the airport will handle 539 flights. However, in Turkey, the holiday has been extended to nine days, meaning the increase in passenger traffic in the TRNC will continue until Sunday, April 6. Over this time, 531 arrivals and 526 departures are scheduled at the airport.
The busiest day will be Saturday, March 29, with the following flight schedule:
-
March 28 — 109 flights
-
March 29 — 116 flights
-
March 30 — 105 flights
-
March 31 — 102 flights
-
April 1 — 107 flights
-
April 2 — 103 flights
-
April 3 — 105 flights
-
April 4 — 98 flights
-
April 5 — 102 flights
-
April 6 — 110 flights
To accommodate the increased flow of passengers, additional staff will be deployed for operational planning, security, and cleaning. The airport administration is working closely with the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, the Ministry of Health, the Police General Directorate, the Civil Aviation Department, as well as immigration, customs, and fire services.
It’s worth noting that in 2025, the first day of Ramadan was on February 28, and the last will be on March 29. Believers had their Suhoor meal the night of February 28 to March 1, followed by the first Iftar dinner on the same day. The Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr) will be observed on March 26. The day after the fasting period ends, Sunday, March 30, Muslims around the world will celebrate Uraza-Bayram (Eid al-Fitr).
