During Ramadan in Northern Cyprus, internet scammers have become active
The main police department of TRNC has issued a warning about the activation of internet scammers. Culprits are sending messages through WhatsApp and social networks, claiming to collect money for material assistance to those in need during the month of Ramadan.
The police press service statement notes that some scammers, using social media applications and taking advantage of the month of Ramadan, continue to obtain money by deception, devising new methods of fraud.
It is reported that in this way, scammers lured 380,000 Turkish lira from one of the TRNC citizens, which he transferred to the scammers' bank account under the guise of "financial assistance" to the needy.
The police urge citizens to be cautious when communicating with strangers on social networks or through WhatsApp, who claim to be collecting financial assistance, and not to send money to the specified bank account numbers to avoid becoming victims of fraudsters.
