Teachers in Northern Cyprus Go on Strike Today
Teachers across Northern Cyprus are staging protests today, with demonstrations beginning at 10:00 AM in front of all schools.
The strike is organized by the Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS).
Union leader Selma Eylem stated that teachers are protesting against those who “disregard the Constitution, the National Education Law, the core principles of Atatürk’s reforms, the regulations based on them, secular education, and the secular structure of society.”
Protesters also claim that children in Northern Cyprus are being "used as a tool for political interference in education and society."
— We will take all necessary steps to oppose those who manipulate children for political agendas, as well as those who turn a blind eye to such actions, — the union declared.
Union representatives are expected to deliver a formal statement during the protests.
