IN TRNC, A RUSSIAN WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ENTERING THE COUNTRY WITH A FAKE BULGARIAN PASSPORT
A Russian citizen has been arrested in Northern Cyprus for entering the country with a fake Bulgarian passport. The court has decided to send the suspect to prison.
The detained Russian woman is known as Kristina Shumskaya. It is presumed that she arrived in the TRNC through the Metehan border crossing with a counterfeit Bulgarian passport. The woman was arrested when attempting to cross the border to Southern Cyprus through the Beyarmudu border crossing with the same forged document.
Yesterday, the woman appeared in court. The Russian citizen is accused of "circulating a forged document" and "attempting to obtain records by deceit" in Nicosia and Famagusta.
According to police information, on November 17 at 07:58 at the Metehan checkpoint in Nicosia, the suspect presented a fake Bulgarian identity card with her photograph, which she planned to use to enter the TRNC from Southern Cyprus.
On the same day, around 18:00, the Russian woman was arrested when she presented the same fake ID to cross the border to Southern Cyprus through the Beyarmudu land crossing. On November 18, the suspect was brought to Famagusta court and detained for three days.
Additionally, during a search of the woman's car and home, Bulgarian driver's licenses, a fake Bulgarian identity card, and two Russian passports were found. The police noted that the Russian passports turned out to be genuine, while the Bulgarian identity card and driver's licenses were fake.
Considering the presented evidence, the judge decided to send the Russian woman to prison for a period not exceeding one month.
