650 Kilograms of Smuggled Meat and 410 Kilograms of Chips Seized in Northern Cyprus
A large consignment of smuggled beef, lamb, and frozen potato chips has been seized in Northern Cyprus. The illegal goods were intercepted in the Haspolat area on the main Famagusta–Nicosia road and at the Derinya border gate.
According to the police press service, around 17:40 yesterday in the Haspolat area on the main Famagusta–Nicosia road, a vehicle driven by a 40-year-old man was searched, and a large quantity of meat was discovered. As evidence, 650 kilograms of beef and lamb, brought from the Republic of Cyprus and not declared to customs, were confiscated. The owner of the illegal goods was arrested.
Additionally, on the same day, during an operation at the Derinya border checkpoint, a vehicle arriving in the TRNC from the Republic of Cyprus was searched, and 410 kilograms of frozen potato chips and 22 kilograms of frozen chicken meat, which had not been declared to customs, were seized.
A criminal case has been initiated against the smuggler.
Police investigations are ongoing.
