Construction Underway on Çayıönü-Güvercinlik Road in the TRNC
Construction has commenced on the Çayıönü-Güvercinlik road in Northern Cyprus, addressing long-standing complaints from local residents regarding its sharp curves and damage caused by rainwater erosion.
The 17.5-kilometer stretch will be significantly improved. Dangerous bends are being eliminated, certain sections of the road will be widened, and areas prone to rainwater pooling will undergo complete clearing and renovation.
Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Erhan Arıklı, who visited the construction site, acknowledged that the road has been a major concern for the community. He stated, "Local mayors and mukhtars have raised serious concerns about the poor condition of this dangerous road, and we are committed to addressing them."
The upgrade, which began this week, is expected to be completed by April 2025.
The minister also announced that after the Çayıönü-Güvercinlik road is finished, construction crews will move on to work on the Karpaz–Monastery road.
Additionally, Minister Arıklı provided updates on the 320-kilometer village road network included in the Highway Master Plan Agreement signed with Turkey. He noted that half of the planned roads have already been completed, with the remainder expected to be finalized in the near future.
