Eight Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants Arrested in Northern Cyprus
Eight Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in Northern Cyprus for living in the country illegally without residence permits.
The police press service reported that the illegal immigrants were detained on June 19 in two separate apartments in Gönyeli. Immigration checks revealed that the detainees had been in the TRNC without residence permits for periods ranging from 162 to 714 days. Following their arrest, they were held in custody for one day.
In court, the suspects claimed they had been working in various locations within the TRNC. An investigation is ongoing.
One of the suspects presented a document claiming he had a work permit in the TRNC. However, the investigation found that his permit, issued on August 16, 2023, had been canceled two weeks later on August 31. A police officer stated that this matter would be investigated separately and requested that all suspects be detained for an additional day for further investigation.
The judge agreed to this request.
