"Memorial Fountains" for Angels-Champions to be Unveiled in the TRNC Today
The “Memorial Fountains” dedicated to the Angels-Champions will be inaugurated today in Northern Cyprus. The ceremony will take place at 6:30 PM at Kantara Square.
According to a statement from the Green Pedal Cycling Sports Club, two fountains have been constructed at Kantara Square and Mersinlik Gorge to honor the volleyball team. They tragically perished at the Isias Hotel in Adyaman during the earthquake on February 8. 6, 2023.
Designed by the Green Pedal Cycling Sports Club in collaboration with the Angels-Champions Supporting Life Association, the fountains were built with the support of the Forestry Department and Iskele Municipality. The sports club covered all the expenses.
The term “Angels-Champions” refers to the members of a teenage volleyball team from Famagusta who died in the earthquake in Turkey on February 6. The bodies of 34 people were recovered from the debris.
The young athletes, aged 12-14, along with their parents and several teachers, had arrived in Adıyaman for a volleyball tournament just days before the disaster. Only four parents and the deputy director of their school survived the earthquake.
