TRNC Faces Blood Shortage: Red Crescent Appeals for Donors
The Turkish Cypriot Red Crescent has issued an urgent appeal for blood donors as the country faces critically low blood supplies at the start of the summer season.
According to a statement from the Red Crescent, there is a sharp decrease in blood donors during the summer months. This makes it difficult to supply blood to patients with thalassemia and cancer, who are undergoing treatment, as well as those needing surgical interventions. Donor assistance is crucial to replenish the Blood Bank's supplies.
To attract donors, two blood donation events using mobile blood collection units will be held this week in Famagusta and Kyrenia.
Blood Donation Points:
- June 27: Famagusta –MAGEM, 4:00 PM — 10:00 PM.
- June 28-29: Kyrenia – Ramadan Cemil Square, 4:00 PM — 10:00 PM.
Murat Uzun, the vice-chairman of the Turkish Cypriot Red Crescent, emphasized the importance of blood donation in his statement and urged concerned citizens to donate blood regularly.
- “The reduction in blood donors during the summer months makes it difficult to supply the blood required for emergencies and surgeries. Therefore, we invite all healthy individuals aged 18 to 65 to donate blood regularly. We expect our people to support blood donation during these challenging times,” he said.
For more information on blood donation, you can call the blood service at 0533 867 24 25, visit the website, or check social media. Here, you can also apply to donate blood and find current donation points.
