Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz Arrives in Northern Cyprus
Cevdet Yılmaz, the Vice President of Turkey, arrived in Northern Cyprus today for an official working visit. Upon landing at Ercan Airport, he held a press conference with Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.
Yılmaz stated that his visit aims to review ongoing projects and take new concrete steps for their implementation. “We are here to strengthen our ties. During this visit, we will meet with President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, and other government partners to discuss upcoming projects, economic development, energy issues, and the Cyprus problem,” he explained.
He also highlighted that the agreement on economic and financial cooperation between Turkey and the TRNC is now in effect. Turkish authorities made their first decision under this agreement in August and provided the TRNC with initial resources.
Yılmaz added that a meeting on energy security will be held during his visit with all parties represented in the parliament. “Energy security is a matter beyond politics,” he emphasized. The meeting will address issues related to the island's electricity supply and propose solutions.
Additionally, a protocol for the opening of a military hospital in Kyrenia will be signed during the visit. “We firmly support Turkish Cypriots in all matters. As a minimum demonstration of their rights, we need to end the inhumane isolation of our Turkish Cypriot brothers and initiate direct flights and trade with the TRNC,” Yılmaz stated.
