Authorities in Northern Cyprus ban outdoor work during daytime hours from August 11 to 15
The Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the TRNC has announced a temporary ban on outdoor work from August 11 to 15, 2025. The restriction applies to daytime hours — from 12:00 to 16:00 — when extremely high temperatures exceeding 40°C are expected.
The ban aims to protect workers' health from the risk of heatstroke and other heat-related issues. The decision was made in accordance with Article 36 of Law No. 22/1992 “On Occupational Safety,” which grants the Minister of Labour the authority to impose such measures when necessary.
Exceptions are made for specific sectors, including agriculture and construction. Employers in these fields may set earlier working hours to complete necessary tasks before the daytime ban takes effect.
The Ministry urged citizens to cooperate: violations can be reported to the Labour Inspection via the ALO 102 hotline or on WhatsApp at 0539 109 5050, providing the exact address and, if possible, a photo.
Compliance will be monitored throughout the period, and violations will result in penalties. Authorities stress that workers’ health must be a priority, especially during extreme heatwaves.
