Yesterday, one of the most important technological projects of the country was launched in Turkey. The national combat aircraft "KAAN" made its first flight. TRNC authorities congratulated Turkey on the successful completion of the tests.
The national combat aircraft KAAN, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), left the hangar and headed to the runway on March 17, 2023. Turkish engineers have been preparing it for flight over the past 9 months.
The first flight assignment tests were successful.
On its first flight on February 21, the aircraft spent 13 minutes in the air and reached a speed of 230 knots, which is approximately 426 km/h, at an altitude of 8,000 feet.
According to TRNC President Ersin Tatar, the aircraft test has made a significant contribution to the protection of the rights and interests of the Turkish nation in the air. He emphasized that this is a new source of pride for the Turkish defense industry and the Turkish people. President Ersin Tatar wished that the first flight of KAAN would be beneficial and congratulated President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish Armed Forces, and the Turkish people.
"I wholeheartedly congratulate the team of the Turkish aerospace industry, the Defense Industry Directorate, and all stakeholders of the project who developed and produced the national combat aircraft KAAN," said the head of Northern Cyprus.
The combat aircraft KAAN has a wingspan of 14 meters, a height of 6 meters, and a length of 21 meters. The cockpit is designed for one person. Two engines, high maneuverability, low radar visibility, the ability to conduct electronic warfare, and carry internal weaponry are some of the key features of the combat aircraft.
