Prominent Turkish Cypriot Mehmet Dursun has passed away in Israel. He was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma in December of last year, and a "Support Life" campaign was launched to help fund his treatment.

Mehmet Dursun worked for many years as a technician at the Selvilitepe signal transmission center for BRTK and was a well-known figure in Iskele and its surrounding areas. His battle with cancer drew widespread public attention, and funds for his treatment were raised through charity concerts and other events.

In recent months, Dursun had been receiving treatment abroad. Initially, Germany was considered for his treatment, but Israel was ultimately chosen. Nearly the entire country closely followed his rehabilitation process.

Sadly, this past weekend, he passed away. Many prominent public and political figures, including TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and the Turkish Ambassador to Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim, expressed their condolences on his passing.

"We will remember him for his humanity, friendship, sincerity, honesty, and camaraderie. I pray for Allah's mercy on Mehmet Dursun and extend my condolences to his family, the BRT team, and our party," wrote Ünal Üstel.

"I was saddened to learn that Mehmet Dursun, whose treatment we closely followed, has passed away. We will do everything in our power to expedite the return of his body to the TRNC. May God have mercy on him, and I offer my condolences to his grieving family and all his loved ones," said Yasin Ekrem Serim
