12 Fires and 52 Incidents in Northern Cyprus Over the Past Week
Over the past week, Northern Cyprus experienced 12 fires and 52 incidents that required the intervention of emergency responders.
According to the weekly report from the Police General Directorate, the total damage caused by the fires amounted to 921,000 Turkish lira.
The likely causes of the fires include overheating of chimney flues, ignition of ceiling coverings, short circuits in electrical wiring, fuel leaks, cigarette butts, lightning strikes, and fires caused by electric blankets on sofas.
Four fires occurred in Kyrenia, three in Güzelyurt, two in Nicosia, one in Famagusta, and one each in Geçitkale and Yeşilköy.
In addition to fighting the fires, firefighters rescued people trapped in elevators, wells, and car accidents, as well as cats stuck in trees and on roofs.
A total of 18 incidents took place in Nicosia, 14 in Kyrenia, 9 in Güzelyurt, 5 in Iskele, 2 in Çaglayan, 2 in Yeşilköy, and one each in Geçitkale and Famagusta.
