13 Fires Reported in Northern Cyprus Over the Past Week
Over the past week, Northern Cyprus has experienced 13 fires and 34 other incidents requiring emergency response. According to the weekly report from the General Directorate of Police, the total damage caused by the fires is estimated at 370,000 Turkish lira.
The reported causes of the fires include an unextinguished cigarette butt thrown into the trash, dry grass igniting from sparks caused by contact with electrical wires, overheating and combustion of oil left on a stovetop, arson, electrical overload, and short circuits.
In addition to firefighting efforts, emergency responders assisted people trapped in vehicles after accidents, those stuck in elevators, and even rescued animals, including dogs and cats found in car engine compartments, on cypress trees, and inside wells.
