Over the week, 82 road accidents occurred in Northern Cyprus: one person died, 17 injured
Over the past week, there were 82 road accidents in the TRNC. In these accidents, one person died, and 17 others were injured.
According to the police press service, 36 accidents occurred in Nicosia, 15 in Famagusta and Kyrenia each, 9 in Iskele, and 7 in Güzelyurt.
Most accidents were caused by speeding – 24 cases, reckless driving (19), failure to stop at intersections (14), failure to maintain distance (13), and other factors (12).
The total damage from road accidents amounted to 5,300,030 Turkish lira.
It is also reported that during road checks conducted over the week, the police stopped 16,311 vehicle drivers.
3,571 violators were held accountable. Of these, 1,677 were caught speeding, 756 were talking on the phone while driving, and 112 were driving under the influence of alcohol. The rest were held accountable for other offenses.
Movement was prohibited for 259 vehicles, and 9 drivers were arrested.
