85 Traffic Accidents in Northern Cyprus Leave 29 Injured in a Week
Over the past week, Northern Cyprus recorded 85 traffic accidents, resulting in injuries to 29 people.
According to the latest report from the General Directorate of Police, 20 of these accidents caused injuries, while the remaining 65 led to property damage. The total estimated damage amounted to 6,452,151 Turkish lira.
The main causes of the accidents were:
- Speeding (26 cases)
- Reckless driving (21 cases)
- Failing to stop at intersections (18 cases)
- Not maintaining a safe following distance (12 cases)
Additionally, 8 other accidents were attributed to various other factors.
Nicosia reported the highest number of accidents (36), followed by Kyrenia (24), Famagusta (17), Güzelyurt (5), and İskele (3).
During the same period, police conducted checks on 14,554 drivers and vehicles, identifying 2,722 traffic violations. As a result, 207 vehicles were taken off the road, and 14 drivers were arrested.
