Over the week, 52 accidents occurred in the TRNC: two people died, and 18 were injured
The TRNC Police published a weekly report on road traffic incidents: from February 12 to 18, 52 accidents occurred in the country, resulting in two fatalities and 18 other injuries.
According to the Main Police Department, the majority of accidents - 18 - occurred due to speeding, while 10 accidents were caused by reckless driving. 12 accidents happened due to failure to stop at intersections, 6 due to failure to maintain distance, and the remaining 6 occurred due to other reasons.
The total damage from road traffic accidents amounted to 1,250,035 lira.
20 accidents occurred in Nicosia, 11 in Famagusta, 4 in Kyrenia, 5 in Güzelyurt, and 2 in Iskele.
As a result of traffic checks conducted by the police throughout the country during the same period, 19,037 vehicle drivers were stopped. 4,198 drivers were found guilty of committing offenses. A total of 449 vehicles were banned from traffic.
During the checks, 1023 cases of speeding were identified, 1298 drivers were found talking on the phone while driving, 225 were caught driving without a license, and another 90 were driving under the influence of alcohol.
