Strikes that began yesterday at postal offices across Northern Cyprus continued on April 10 and are expected to last until the end of the week. Today, staff at the polyclinics and laboratories of Famagusta State Hospital also joined the protest.

The strike is taking place at the following locations:

  • Central Post Office, Nicosia

  • Kaimakli Post Office, Nicosia

  • Bakanlıklar Region Post Office, Nicosia

  • Central Post Office, Famagusta

  • Bus Terminal Post Office, Famagusta

  • İskele Post Office

  • Central Post Office, Kyrenia

  • Central Post Office, Güzelyurt

  • Central Post Office, Lefke

The strike is organized by several public sector unions: KAMUSEN, KTAMS, KAMU-İŞ, and HAKSEN (the Union for Equal Rights and Justice).

In a joint statement, the unions said that despite numerous efforts, no concrete steps have been taken to address the chronic shortage of staff and equipment in the postal service — one of the Finance Ministry’s most profitable departments.

“These deficiencies, which are essential for the effective delivery of public services, are putting a strain on both our staff and the public,” the statement read.

Union representatives are calling on the Prime Minister to take immediate action to resolve these long-standing issues.

Meanwhile, KAMU-SEN and KAMU-İŞ also launched a full-day strike today in the polyclinics and laboratories at Famagusta State Hospital, citing staff shortages.

Earlier, the unions had warned that they would take industrial action if no progress was made following their February 28 negotiations with the government regarding nurses and lab workers.
