According to the official statement, the strike was postponed "due to concerns over national and public security and the potential disruptive effects on essential civil aviation and airport services."

The decree specifies:

"The 24-hour strike announced by the Air Traffic Controllers Union and/or other unions on December 9, 2024, at the Air Traffic Management Department and/or across all units of Ercan Airport is suspended and postponed for 60 days."

Last week, the union declared the strike to push for:

  • Ensuring minimum standards for aviation services.
  • Reversing changes to the cost-of-living calculation method.
  • Addressing inequities in the tax system that disproportionately affect low-income workers.
