Public Sector Salaries in the TRNC Exceed 4.4 Billion TL
The Ministry of Finance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has released data on public sector salary expenditures for January 2025. According to the report, a total of 45,758 employees were paid, with overall salary costs reaching 4.44 billion Turkish lira.
Although the number of public employees has decreased in several areas, the total salary expenditure continues to rise due to inflation.
Political Staff
In December 2024, 52 political appointees received a total of 15.98 million TL. By January 2025, this amount had risen to 17.73 million TL.
Teachers
In December, 4,530 teachers were paid a combined 522.71 million TL. In January, even though the number of teachers slightly decreased, their total wages increased to 573.67 million TL.
Overseas Representatives
The number of employees in overseas TRNC offices fell to 74. However, spending on these representatives rose by 6 million TL, reaching a total of 23.48 million TL.
Permanent and Temporary Staff
The number of permanent civil servants increased from 5,180 to 5,234, and the total salary payments for this group rose from 759.51 million TL to 852.72 million TL. Temporary staff also saw a slight increase from 387 to 392, with related costs growing from 63.10 million TL to 71.66 million TL.
Pensioners
By January 2025, the number of retired public sector employees stood at 15,796. Across various sectors, pension payments totaled 1.43 billion TL.
Despite a slight decrease in overall staff numbers, the total amount spent on public sector salaries and pensions in January 2025 rose to 2.36 billion TL.
