Nicosia Residents Astonished by Sudden Hailstorm During Heatwave
Nicosia residents were taken by surprise when a sudden hailstorm hit the city, despite the unusually hot weather for early June.
The hailstorm occurred on Sunday afternoon, lasting only 5–10 minutes. Yet, this brief event was enough to flood social media with photos and videos from amazed locals. The footage shows large hailstones hitting the ground amid the intense June heat.
Northern Cyprus has been enduring an abnormal heatwave for the second consecutive week, breaking several temperature records. The TRNC has responded to the extreme heat by imposing a three-day ban on outdoor work during peak sun hours and setting up a special hotline for reporting violations.
On Monday, June 10, the heatwave slightly eased, with temperatures reaching up to 39°C. In contrast, last week saw maximum temperatures soar to 44°C.
