Animal Rights Activists Gather at the TRNC Parliament to Honor Slain Donkeys with Black Wreaths

Following the horrific killing of 14 donkeys in the Karpas Peninsula, animal rights activists held a protest today. They gathered in front of the TRNC Parliament, holding black wreaths in remembrance of the slain animals.

The protest was organized by the "Golden Paws" animal rights association, in collaboration with the Animal Rights Committee of the Turkish Cypriot Bar Association and the Cyprus Animal Rights Association.

The demonstration, which began at 2:00 PM, invited all concerned citizens to participate and show solidarity.

To recap, last weekend, unknown perpetrators brutally shot and killed a herd of stray donkeys. At least 14 animals were killed, including a pregnant female who was shot while giving birth. The donkeys were reportedly killed with gunshots fired at close range.

After the bodies were discovered, the police launched an extensive investigation. According to the press office, the incident was reported on Sunday around 4:00 PM, about 500 meters northwest of the Dipkarpaz waste dump.

The head of Northern Cyprus has taken direct control of the investigation.
