St. Hilarion Kalesi
Description
St. Hilarion Castle (Greek: Κάστρο του Αγίου Ιλαρίωνα), also known in the Middle Ages as Château d’Amour, is a castle in Cyprus located on the slopes of the Kyrenia mountain range. Originally, it was a monastery named after a monk who chose this place for his hermitage. Later, the monastery was significantly fortified by the Byzantines and, together with the castles of Buffavento and Kantara, formed the island's defense against raids by Arab pirates on the coast.
