Makronissos Beach in Cyprus: What Makes It Special and How to Find It
The resort town of Ayia Napa in eastern Cyprus boasts numerous beaches, some of which are among the most famous on the island.
The number one beach, as mentioned in many travel guides, is the famous Nissi Beach. However, according to many, the most beautiful beach in Ayia Napa is actually Makronissos Beach.
It's best to check for yourself and visit both beaches, as they are not too far from each other.

Makronissos Beach
General characteristics of the beach:
- Fine light-colored sand
- Shallow waters and a gradual, rock-free entry into the sea
- A calm bay protected from the winds (eastern part)
- Approximately 200×100 meters in size
- All necessary infrastructure
Makronissos Beach is divided into two sections. The eastern part is what is generally referred to as Makronissos, an ideal beach for families with children, with small waves, soft sand, and a gentle slope that ensures a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for visitors of all ages.
The western section has coarser sand and pebbles, as well as stronger waves, attracting water sports enthusiasts. In winter, with favorable winds, kitesurfers can sometimes be spotted here.
Infrastructure of Makronissos Beach
Makronissos Beach is located outside the city, surrounded by only a few hotels, while the rest of the area is pleasant countryside. This makes Makronissos Beach much quieter than Nissi Beach. In fact, the beach connects a small rocky island with the shoreline, forming two lagoons—so you can swim on both sides of the beach.
Entry to the beach is free, and it has everything you need: numerous restaurants and bars, various water sports and activities, and, of course, sunbed and umbrella rentals.
