Plane spotting is a popular activity that involves taking pictures of aircraft taking off or landing. Here's where you can do this in Cyprus.
Spotting Locations in Cyprus
Cyprus has two airports (not counting the British military bases) where civilian planes land. The most popular and busiest is Larnaca Airport. Paphos Airport is less in demand.
Spotting at Larnaca Airport
Northeast Spotting Point
This is not only a popular place for spotters but also a well-known beach among both locals and tourists—Mackenzie Beach. There are many cafes where you can watch planes landing or taking off (depending on the wind direction, but more often it's landings) while sipping coffee.
Southwest Spotting Point
If you drive to the village of Meneou, you can watch the planes from there. However, the best spot is a long-term private parking lot located directly under the flight path—here's the location.
Spotting at Paphos Airport
Depending on the wind and landing direction, there are two points for spotting planes at Paphos Airport.
Western Spotting Point
This area is full of farmers' fields, which are not easily accessible. However, this spot offers a wild beach where you can watch planes flying almost directly overhead.
Eastern Spotting Point
If you drive along the E603 road towards one of the private airport parking lots, you'll find that this point has the flight path directly overhead. However, parking might be difficult, so it's better to head to the Agia Vriaini Church—the planes won’t be as close, but still clearly visible.
