20 Syrians Attempt to Sail from Limassol Beach to Italy
A group of Syrians tried to sail from a Limassol beach to Italy last night but was stopped by the marine police.
In total, 20 people were involved in the unusual departure—12 men, 5 women, and 3 children. Around midnight, they set off in a boat from a beach near the monastery area in Limassol, aiming to reach Italy.
Local media reports that their journey was interrupted around 3:30 AM after the port police received a report about the boat, which was 7 nautical miles east of Akrotiri.
All the individuals were safely brought back to the dock in Linani, Limassol. The police are continuing their investigation, including efforts to locate the boat's navigator.
