A 29-year-old man has confessed to smuggling 28 kilograms of marijuana into Cyprus
In Paphos, he appeared before the court accused of trafficking and storing a large quantity of narcotics. The defendant admitted to bringing 28 kilograms of cannabis into Cyprus, as well as engaging in money laundering.
As disclosed during the court proceedings, the 29-year-old man was apprehended on January 31, 2024, at Paphos Airport.
According to a written statement provided by the prosecution representative, the suspect was detained during customs inspection. Packages containing drugs were discovered in his luggage during an X-ray examination.
Chemical laboratory analysis revealed that the man was transporting a total of 28 kilograms of cannabis. Since then, the 29-year-old suspect has been held in custody.
During the hearings, it was proposed to postpone the case consideration to prepare a report on the "personal circumstances" of the defendant from the Social Security Department.
Further consideration of the case has been postponed until June 20, 2024. The court ruled that the man would remain in custody until the next hearing. The suspect's lawyer will seek a reduction in the punishment.
