Cyprus Airports Prepare to Welcome 8 Million Passengers
The Republic of Cyprus airports are gearing up for the new tourist season. It is expected that from April to October, the airfields in Larnaca and Paphos will serve over 8 million passengers.
According to a statement by the service company Hermes Airports, as the summer season approaches, more than 3000 employees work daily at Cyprus airports.
Anticipating a significant increase in passenger traffic, the country's terminals are preparing to employ over 5000 staff, including both permanent and seasonal personnel. Various organizations, including ground services, security firms, restaurants, cafes, and management companies, are recruiting new employees for various positions.
Once suitable candidates are identified, they undergo training on airport operations, including basic safety rules required for issuing passes by civil aviation.
To prepare the terminals for the summer season, construction sites have been set up at the airports, and areas have been designated to ensure uninterrupted passenger service.
Significant progress has been made at Paphos Airport following the completion of work on remote boarding gates. Protective glass has been installed in two out of five areas, and all have been enhanced through the modernization of heating and air conditioning systems.
Furthermore, teams have been working diligently on the tunnel for several weeks during the night, which is part of the long-term technical maintenance program for Cypriot airports.
Substantial expansion of parking areas is also underway at both airports, resulting in over 300 new public parking spaces. This expansion plan aims to utilize over 7000 square meters.
At the same time, carpets in departure halls are being replaced with ceramic tiles and specially crafted tiles featuring Lefkaritika patterns, adding a touch of local heritage to the airport's aesthetics.
Efforts to reconstruct and create new passenger waiting lounges at Larnaca Airport have also made significant progress. It is expected that construction of two new waiting lounges will be completed by the end of May.
The Cyprus airports' food and beverage (F&B) department is updating the cafeteria menus, adapting them to new global dining trends by introducing vegan and vegetarian dishes.
It is noted that by 2025, vegetarian dishes will constitute 30 percent of the menu, reflecting a shift towards more inclusive and diverse dietary preferences.
