American Senator Stripped of Honorary Citizenship of Paphos
The Municipal Council of Paphos unanimously decided to revoke the title of Honorary Citizen and the Golden Key of the city of Paphos from Robert Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
This decision was made following the American court's verdict on July 16, which found Senator Robert Menendez from New Jersey guilty on all 16 charges related to corruption.
In making this decision, the Municipal Council considered the fact that the American politician was convicted of crimes involving corruption in the performance of his duties and work as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
"The Municipality of Paphos believes that this decision truly contributes to creating a culture of combating corruption, which strengthens the institutions of our society and our country," the statement said.
It is worth noting that the honorary titles were conferred upon the senator by the previous Municipal Council's decision on December 22, 2022.
