Another Illegal Hunter Arrested Near Paphos
Cyprus police have arrested a second suspect involved in illegal bird hunting near the village of Arodes in the Paphos district. Authorities are still searching for a third poacher.
According to the police, the second suspect is a 27-year-old resident of Paphos. He is facing multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit an offense, hunting in a restricted zone, transporting a loaded hunting rifle, and failing to comply with a game warden’s signal.
The incident took place last Sunday. Members of the Game and Fauna Service were patrolling the area near Arodes to prevent illegal hunting when they spotted a vehicle with three people inside.
According to reports, one of the passengers leaned out of the window and shot a bird. Although the gamekeepers signaled the vehicle to stop, the suspects sped away.
The rangers managed to record the vehicle’s license plate and passed the details to the police.
On Sunday, a 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. A court ordered his detention the following day.
The search for the third man is ongoing. The bird's remains were later recovered by the rangers and handed over to the police as evidence.
